Do we really need Smart Cities?

  1. Good afternoon everybody, our GD topic is Do we really need Smart Cities?

Now Smart Cities these words evoke an imagination of a city in our mind which has high rises, glass buildings with great architecture, intelligent public utilities, less congestion and pollution etc. But before moving to that bright imagination we first need to keep in mind that cities are built for people. Every product or good, ex: a public bus, when its made it remains cleans it looks sharp, all nice. But after a few months the same thing when stained with pan-parag or gutkha. It does not look very smart. So before venturing out to build a smart city, the govt should concentrate on making the people smart by enforcing proper education from a very beginner level and also it should educate the public via mass awareness. Only then we can protect our cities our culture and thus we can live smartly.

The concept of the smart city should rise from within the people who will be using it. Without it, a smart city will also look pale and lame full of half wits.

  2. It's not right to link smart city with high rise buildings. In my opinion, a city should be termed smart city if it possess some salient features of smart city like proper sewerage and drainage system, proper town planning, proper space for playground, parks and basic amnesties required for daily life. And hence every city should be smart city and it is very much relevant.

  4. Hi.

An Idea of smart cities is fabulous but I don't think the country like India requires smart cities very urgently right now because I feel that politicians are using the tag "SMART CITIES" to woo the youngsters and gain votes. Keeping that aside, I really feel that before planning for smart cities we must actually think about coming out of poverty line & corrupted system. The focus must give on developing agriculture sector on which majority Indian population is still dependent. Getting out of poverty line & corruption will eventually pave the way towards a smart city which aims at happy living of people.
